The Vrabinec , also Vrabín (German Sperlingstein ) is a striking rock mountain in the right-Elbe Bohemian Central Uplands in the Czech Republic . On the top of the mountain are the small remains of the medieval castle Sperlingstein .
Location and surroundings
The Vrabinec is located about 6 km south of Děčín in the "Verneřické středohoří" part of the Bohemian Central Uplands. Directly at the foot of the mountain are the small villages Přední Lhota ( low Welhotten ) and Babětín ( Babutin ) that the municipality Těchlovice ( Tichlowitz belong). The sparrow houses once located on the mountain shoulder went out after 1945 as a result of the expulsion of the German residents.
history
The castle was probably founded at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries by noblemen from Těchlovice. It was first mentioned in the 15th century under the German name Sperlingstein . The castle often changed hands, from 1413 it belonged to the powerful von Wartenberg family , then in 1420 to Nikolaus von Lobkowitz . Later it was again owned by the Wartenbergers. The castle was abandoned for unknown reasons as early as 1444.
Today only a few remains of the watchtower remain from the castle.
natural reserve
In 1992, 8.8 hectares of the mountain were declared a nature reserve (přírodní rezervace). A rocky area with rare heat-loving plants is protected.
Mountain sports
The free-standing rocks at the top of the mountain now also serve as a mountain sports area. The main tower (Hlavní věž) was first climbed by German climbers in 1905 . Comprehensive mountain sports development did not take place until the 1970s and 1990s by Czech climbers. There are currently climbing routes of difficulty levels II to VI on the rocks (JPK - Jednotná pískovcová klasifikace ).
Paths to the summit
- A red marked hiking route leads over the shoulder of the mountain, which, coming from Děčín, continues via Těchlovice to Buková hora ( Zinkenstein ). A short fork leads to the top of the mountain.
