The Trimmis lock (army designation lock no. 1322) was a defensive position of the Swiss army . It is located north of Trimmis across the Chur Rhine Valley . Together with the Untervaz blocking point, it formed the southern front of the Sargans fortress . It is considered a military historical monument of regional importance.

Trimmis lockout

The valley level near Trimmis was dominated in the Middle Ages by the Neuburg and Alt-Aspermont castles on the heights on both sides of the Rhine .

The tank barrier of the Trimmis barrier, which was created during the Second World War, followed the natural obstacle of the Clei Rüfi (small Rüfe ) stream north of Trimmis. The barrier was in the west (near the banks of the Rhine) by the infantry bunker A 6323 "Trimmis-Station" (canceled in November 2014) and in the east (Wald ob Spiegelberg) by the infantry bunker A 6316 "Parvaz" and A 6317 " Costamser » flanked. The three bunkers were each armed with a bunker / anti-tank cannon and a machine gun.

Three signs for infantry cannons (A 6318, 6320, 6321) and the Au shelter (A 6324) were dismantled. The Bielzig-Rapp shelter (A 6319) is still there. The Trimmiser lock had the order (1944) to hold the upper Rhine valley near Trimmis to the south and north with the support of the artillery works Haselboden and Molinära. Planning took place in 1941 and construction began in June 1941. When the Reduit line had to be shortened, the barrier was outside the Reduit front.

Molina era artillery plant

The Molinära artillery works (A 6315) belonged to the Trimmis barrier and formed the counter-work to the Haselboden artillery works. It bears the name of the former episcopal Meiergut Molinära and is located in a rock face south of the Hagbach .

It was armed with two 7.5 cm bunkers / anti-tank guns. The garrison was provided by fortress artillery company 35.

Lock point Untervaz

The Trimmis and Untervaz blocking points (No. 1323) blocked the entire valley on the right and left of the banks of the Rhine. The Untervaz blocking point (No. 1323) blocked the valley to the left of the bank of the Rhine with the Haselboden artillery works (A 6325) and Neuburg (A 6329).

The artillery works were occupied by the fortress company 35 while the infantry defense of the barrier was carried out by troops of the Territorial Fusilier Battalion 148 (among others Mountain Frontier Fusilier Companies II / 260 and III / 259).

Haselboden artillery plant

The Haselboden artillery plant (A 6325) belonged to the Untervaz barrier and is located on the left side of the valley near Haselboden opposite the Molinära artillery plant on the right side of the valley. It was put into operation in September 1943.

The armament consisted of four 7.5 cm bunker cannons with two observers. There was also a fighting stand with a 4.7 cm bunker / anti-tank gun, machine gun and observer as well as a small accommodation for the crew. All guns acted on the Trimmis tank barrier.

The crew initially consisted of fortress artillery company 35 (later fortress company III / 12 of fortress department 12) and until the 7.5 cm guns from factory company 53 were decommissioned. The artillery plant was dismantled in August 2015.

During the Cold War, the Neuburg infantry plant (A 6329) was built with two 8.1 cm fortress mine launchers, located north of the Haselboden plant near the Neuburg ruins .
