Sphinx Publishing House

The Sphinx Verlag was a Swiss esoteric publisher based in Basel , which today belongs to the Random House publishing group .

The focus of the publishing program was initially on borderline scientific topics, later also on Indians, holistic medicine, eastern wisdom, mythology and psychology. The publisher's authors are Alan Watts , Joseph Campbell ( The Masks of God ), Thaddeus Golas , Sergius Golowin ( The World of Tarot ), Georges I. Gurdjieff , Albert Hofmann , Timothy Leary , Éliphas Lévi , John C. Lilly , Alexandra David-Néel , PD Ouspensky , Christian Rätsch and Robert Anton Wilson .

The publishing house was founded in 1975 by Dieter A. Hagenbach (1943–2016) in Basel and five years later converted into an AG , the majority of which was taken over in 1990 by the Sauerländer Verlag , which then sold Sphinx to Hugendubel . Together with Hugendubel, the publishing house went to Random House in 2008, where it is continued as Imprint .

From 1977 to 1987 the publisher brought out the magazine Sphinx-Magazin .
