The Sphinx Head is a 1630 m high mountain peak in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . It rises up at the northern end of the Sphinx in the northern part of the Wohlthat massif .
It was discovered and descriptively named because of its resemblance to the head of the Egyptian Sphinx during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher .
