Spider Crew is a hardcore band from Vienna that has existed since 1999.
history
The band was founded in 1999 in Vienna by members and former members of the local hardcore bands Only Attitude Counts and Bust the Chain. The release of an EP on I Scream Records was followed in 2001 by appearances at festivals in Germany and the Netherlands. After the release of the album A Menace ta Society in 2003, the band completed their first European tour as a headliner . In 2009 she took a creative break.
Singer Kim Ahl is originally from Sweden and was webmaster for Agnostic Front for a while . Singer Sean Daloise comes from the USA and was the singer of the band Aggressive Threat.
Style and reception
Spider Crew play classic New York hardcore medium pace with Oi! -Bonds; the band calls their music "Vienna Style Hardcore" (VSHC). A special feature compared to traditional band structures is the line-up with up to three singers. The singers Mike Cruzified and Kim Ahl played both guitar and bass on previous releases.
The Ox-Fanzine reviewed the band's first four albums and assigned them to New York Hardcore. The debut EP You Better Recognize described it as a clichéd old school album, the sound of which has been "heard (sic) a thousand times". As a target group for the first album A Menace ta Society , the magazine made "any weird drunkards who got stuck in the nineties with (...) bad music" and rated the album as "shit". With the album Still Crazy But Not Insane , the perception of the Ox changed . No musical changes were found, the music was still fast-paced NYHC in the style of Agnostic Front or Warzone with clichéd lyrics, but the classification within the meta genre Hardcore was shifted: Reviewer Andreas Zengler saw the album as "good doing "counter-draft at the time of publication, popular Emo . With the 2014 album Too Old To Die Young , the Ox then regarded the Spider Crew as a "European hardcore institution", which still polarizes with "pathetic song titles", but which hardcore fans cannot ignore. At this point in time, the magazine saw musical parallels to the Ryker’s . Also Metal.de sees an evolution of the band throughout its existence: If the debut EP was still marked by "immense Prolligkeit" and "plates scraps of text", the band with their album would Menace Ta Society towards "fast, metallic old school "develops and offers" unimagined musical diversity ".
