Mirror tower

The mirror tower , also known as the Fleischhofturm , is a medieval defense tower of the listed city fortifications of the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The tower is located in the southern part of the old city fortifications of the historic Quedlinburg old town. The Mühlgraben runs directly on the east side of the tower . Carl-Ritter-Strasse runs south.

History and architecture

The mirror tower was built as a half- shell tower and incorporated into the neighboring meat yard. In its appearance it resembled the Schreckensdüvel in the northern part of the old town. Until 1633 it was present in its original height and was provided with a pointed roof. It was then cut in half. In 1987 a modern overbuilding of the remains of the tower took place. In the time of the GDR , the economic possibilities were not available to restore the original shape, with an 18 meter high spire and four 6.50 meter high side towers. It should therefore initially remain with a tower stump. The current roofing was an uncoordinated provisional solution built in 1988 by the site manager.
