history

The activity of the cap maker can be compared with the activity of a turner, which is still in use today , only with the specialization mainly for the weaving trade. This included mechanical looms and spinning wheels . Special woods were used to make spindles. 1361 is written in a Würzburg bill about Spindelholz von dem Weiszen ahorns . In 1768, Count zu Sayn and Wittgenstein, Herr zu Homburg, advertised a vacant village craftsman's position as a turner and cap maker . This still shows the distinction between specializations in the 18th century. Additional production of household utensils made of wood complemented the occupation of the cap makers, so they also made whisks , wooden spoons , meat tenderizers, sweepers and brush holders, ox peaks , door handles and building blocks for children.
