Spite was an American nu metal band from Charlotte , North Carolina that was formed in 1996 and split in 2001.

history

The band was formed in July 1996 and consisted of singer Chris Boone, guitarist Craig Baker, bassist Josh Pratt and drummer Byron McDonald. This was followed in 1997 by the release of the debut album Heavy Whipping Cream . The group also went on tour along the east coast of the United States . In addition, Baker was replaced by John Crumpton. After the band had signed a record deal with Prosthetic Records in June 1998 , the album Bastard Complex was released in February 1999 . This includes Dan Young as guitarist "Live Fast". The album was re-released on Metal Blade Records in 2000 . In 2001, the band broke up after the guitarist Young on a drug - overdose died and was briefly replaced by Dave Campbell.

style

Steve Huey of Allmusic wrote that Spite's music has an aggressive sound, drawing influences from post-grunge , post-hardcore , noise rock and nu metal. The band is oriented towards groups like the Deftones or Korn . Christian Graf wrote in his Nu Metal and Crossover Lexicon that the band was influenced by Death Metal , Rapcore and Korn. The group tried to exploit the Nu-Metal euphoria of that time, but they couldn't get out of the "second division". Joel McIver also noted the aggressive sound of the music in his book The Next Generation of Rock & Punk Nu Metal . He assigned it to Nu Metal, whereby it does not come close to its role models such as Korn and Slipknot .

Johnny Death from thechickenfishspeaks.com found Heavy Whipping Cream's music to be quite aggressive in his review . The singing often sounds very alien, making a comparison with Ministry . Christopher J. Kelter from roughedge.com wrote about Bastard Complex that it played rock influenced by hardcore punk , which had an aggressive and raw sound. Thematically one treats the American life and its culture.
