The Springtail Point (English for springtail tip ) is a 1728 m high mountain in the shape of a headland in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Clare Range, it rises 5 km north of Skew Peak south of the head end of the Mackay Glacier .
The Austrian biologist Heinz Janetschek (1913–1997), who worked at the McMurdo station from 1961 to 1962 , named it after the arthropods from the springtail class ( Latin: Collembola ) found here.
