The Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium Dülken (formerly: Städtisches Gymnasium Dülken) is a high school in the town of Viersen in the district of Dülken . In the 2013/14 school year, 980 pupils were taught at the municipal high school in Dülken. The school was founded in 1872 and is therefore the oldest still existing school in the town. The Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium has been a European school since 2013 .

history

The school was founded in 1872 as the “Städtische Höhere Bürgererschule zu Dülken”. In January 2009 the school conference decided to name the school in Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium Dülken after the pianist and composer Clara Schumann (1819-1896) . Furthermore, at the beginning of the 2009/10 school year, a new system of hours was introduced as a pilot project, in which one lesson lasts 67.5 minutes.

music

The school became known for its youth symphony orchestra , which was founded in 1964 under the direction of Werner Tillmann and with the support of Ernst Klusen . In the course of its 30-year existence, it has received international awards, made numerous trips abroad and also became known for record, radio and television recordings. Supplemented by a private music school with a sponsoring association, the so-called "Dülkener Model" was created; its structures have been replicated abroad several times. So many young people in Dülken were supported by symphonic music. Numerous school and professional musicians, including federal and state winners in the “ Jugend musiziert ” competition, emerged from the model. From 1965 until Tillmann's retirement in 1990, the school offered instrumental lessons (e.g. recorder) for the whole class in the fifth grade ; Based on this, interested students were introduced to other instruments (especially orchestral instruments). Since 2003, the school has offered so-called string and wind classes, in which every student from the fifth grade learns an instrument. The method practiced by Tillmann pursued similar goals as the current initiative " Every child an instrument ".

Carnival and customs

The grammar school has been associated with the Dülken tradition for a long time. The school auditorium serves as a venue for various carnival meetings (meetings of Dölker Crazy Kids, DÜ-KA-GE, school meetings, etc.).

Since 2010 there has also been an Elferrat at the Clara, consisting of (partly. Former) students from the school. This organizes a session for Secondary School I every year on Old Women's Thursday, where the program is designed by students for students. In addition, many of the Dülken and Viersen carnival clubs visit the school on this day as well as the Dülken prince couples. The Elferrat is active throughout the session and represents the school at various carnival events.
