The Städtische Mataré-Gymnasium Meerbusch is a grammar school in Meerbusch -Büderich in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss , which is attended by almost 1000 students.

history

The school is named after the artist Ewald Mataré , who died in 1965 and who lived and worked in Büderich for many years until his death . The logo of the school is the to one another motif from 1953, which Mataré used for colored woodcuts, bronze reliefs and in the thank you plaque for the donation of the German people .

The school started teaching in 1968 as the “Kreisgymnasium im Aufgebung Büderich” in temporary rooms in Marienheim on Necklenbroicher Strasse. A few years later it was given its current name. In 1974 the company moved to the new building on a former landfill. Since 1986 there have been bilingual classes in social science subjects from the intermediate level .

Technical focus

The special focus of the grammar school is on bilingual teaching: Students in the German-English branch receive more intensive English lessons in the orientation level . In the middle and upper grades , the social science subjects are taught in English. The Mataré-Gymnasium was the first school in North Rhine-Westphalia to offer history as a bilingual subject for the Abitur . On May 9, 2006 the Mataré-Gymnasium celebrated the 20th anniversary of the bilingual language branch.

The school has been a European school since the 2009/2010 school year , which has been made possible by projects such as student exchanges, internships abroad, the possibility of further training for foreign language correspondents at Kings College London, and participation in the “Model of European Nations”.

Events

Numerous events take place at the Mataré-Gymnasium throughout the year:

  • The level 13 Winter Ball, which used to take place regularly in January, has been replaced by annual performances with changing names since January 2006. This is an evening event for high school graduates with various offers ranging from skits and singing / musical interludes by the students or local bands to dance performances by the local dance schools. As a rule, the winnings from this evening are used in retrospect to organize and implement the high school graduates' prom.
  • At Carnival find several celebrations held in Mataré High School. The season opens with a small "party" on November 11th at 11:11 am; also Indian teaching through music and "jecke Tones" is interrupted at this time. The highlight is the lower school celebration with many imaginative costumes.
  • Every year around Easter, a school exchange with young people from the twin town of Meerbusch in France, Fouesnant , is organized.
  • During the summer there are several events at the Mataré-Gymnasium, including the summer run in the Meererbuscher Forest, the summer festival and the book flea market for the purchase and sale of old school books, but also other literature from students
  • Every year the Mataré high school organizes a large Christmas bazaar. With the proceeds from this and other events, the Mataré supports its partner school in Guatemala. To further support the partner school, the reading night was launched, during which the pupils read from books and receive money from sponsors for each page read.
