The list of permanent representatives of Austria at the Council of Europe contains the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg .
The Republic of Austria has been a member of the Council of Europe since 1956 .
Committee of Ministers
The Committee of Ministers is the executive body of the Council of Europe, in which the member states are represented by their foreign ministers or their permanent representatives in the rank of ambassadors.
The Council of Europe was important for Austrian foreign and European policy:
- Due to the state treaty, Austria was not a member of the European Economic Community (EEC).
- Diplomatic initiatives have been taken here in relation to the Mutual Economic Assistance Council .
