Gerhard Jandl
Gerhard Jandl (* 1962 in Döbling ) is an Austrian diplomat.
Professional career
Gerhard Jandl studied law and economics . He graduated with a law doctorate from the University of Vienna (1984) and an economics diploma from the University of Graz .
In 1986 he joined the diplomatic service of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs . His first activity abroad was at the Austrian Embassy in Cairo ( Egypt ). This was followed by four and a half years at the Austrian UN representation in New York , including as Austrian delegate to the United Nations Security Council from January 1, 1991 to December 31, 1992. This was followed by the appointment of deputy head of mission at the Austrian embassy in Tunis ( Tunisia ) , responsible for political contacts with the PLO headquarters. In October 1995 he became head of the Balkans-Repartment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna, 1998 he was chairman of the Balkans Working Group of the European Union (COWEB).
In 2000, Jandl was appointed Austrian ambassador to Sarajevo for Bosnia and Herzegovina , most recently as the doyen of the diplomatic corps there. In 2005 he became ambassador in Belgrade , initially for the State Union of Serbia-Montenegro, and then after the independence of Montenegro for the Republic of Serbia . His tenure there fell into a phase of political upheaval. In 2006 Montenegro declared itself independent, and in 2008 Kosovo too .
In autumn 2008 Jandl returned to Vienna and became the Director of Security Policy (Head of the Department for Security Policy Affairs) of the Austrian Foreign Ministry. Jandl has been the Austrian ambassador (permanent representative) to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg since March 2018 .
Private matters and awards
For his commitment to the UN, he received the Gold Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria , and for that in favor of a common European security and defense policy the National Order of Merit of France (Ordre National du Mérite).
Gerhard Jandl is a member of several Catholic student associations, namely the K.Ö.St.V. since 1979. Herulia Wolkersdorf in MKV, since 1982 the K.Ö.St.V. Kürnberg Vienna in the ÖCV , since 2013 the KDSt.V. Aenania in Cartellverband to Munich, and since 2019 the FEE. Robert Schuman Argentorata in Strasbourg. Since July 2017 he has been the publisher of “ Academia ”, the ÖCV's magazine . Jandl is also a member of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
