Stéphane Lissner (born January 23, 1953 in Paris ) is a French theater and opera director.

Life

Lissner is the son of an operations manager and attended the Paris schools, Collège Stanislas and Lycée Henri IV . He made his first experience of the world of public theater in 1977 as Secretary General of the City Theater Center dramatique d ' Aubervilliers . From 1978 to 1983 he was co-director of the Center dramatique de Nice at the Théâtre national de Nice in Nice .

Lissner directed the cultural event Printemps du théâtre between 1984 and 1987 and taught management of cultural institutions at the Université Paris-Dauphine in 1984 . In 1983 he was appointed to the board of directors of the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . From 1988 to 1997 he was general director at this theater and from 1994 to 1996 he headed the Orchester de Paris , which had its seat in the Théâtre du Châtelet. From 1995 to 1997 he was artistic director of the Teatro Real opera house in Madrid .

In 1998, Lissner became director of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence , while in Paris he shared the direction of the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord with Peter Brook from 1998 to June 2005, and since 2002 he has directed the Théâtre de la Madeleine with Fréderic Franck . His contract with the Aix Festival, which ran until 2009, was canceled in 2006 in order to be able to devote himself to his position as artistic director and artistic director ( sovrintendente ) of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, which was extended in 2009.

In October 2012 he was appointed Deputy Director of the Paris Opera . From August 1, 2014, after Nicolas Joel left , he took over the sole management of the house.
