Stéphane Moreau (born January 1, 1971 in Nantes ) is a former French football player and current coach.

Player career

Moreau grew up in Nantes and, after showing footballing talent, was accepted into the youth department of FC Nantes . In the 1990/91 season he was in the professional squad for the first time, but was not used. He was able to make his debut in the following season, but did not get beyond this one mission. Although he was used 15 times in the third season, he could not establish himself at Nantes, which was also due to injuries. Accordingly, he left the first division club in 1995 after becoming French champion in the same year, and signed with the second-rate SM Caen . At Caen he became a regular player and managed with the team in 1996 promotion to the first division, even if this was followed by direct relegation a year later. Again injuries caused a setback in Moreau's career when he lost his regular place in the season after relegation. For this reason, he moved to league rivals Stade Laval in 1998 . At first he was a regular there and was largely spared from injuries. But from 2000 onwards he came to work less and less and lost his regular place. After he was injured only six times in the 2002/03 season, he ended his active career.

Coaching career

It took a year after his career ended before he got into the coaching profession and took over responsibility for the Nantes reserve team. In 2008 he moved to the club's U-18 team. With the Stade Laval, it was another former employer that employed him from 2009 as head of the youth department. A year later he became the coach of the second team.
