St-André church

St-André is a Roman Catholic church in Antugnac in the Aude department in France . The church was classified as a monument historique in 1932 .

history

St-André was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style . From the outside, the church looks like a single-nave building with a semicircular apse in the east, as the transept arms protrude only a little over the width of the nave. The transept arms each house another semicircular apse inside, so that St-André has a surprisingly elaborate three-cone choir in the east for the size of the building . Presumably in the 14th century the church was expanded as a fortified church . In the 14th century, the transverse rectangular west-bar-like bell tower was also expanded. After damage in the wars of religion, the tower had to be restored in 1580.
