The Saint-Cézaire chapel in Vernègues , a French commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region , was built in the 11th century.

location

The chapel , named after Saint Caesarius of Arles , is located on a vineyard called Château-Bas on the road between Vernègues and Cazan. It is attached to a Roman temple and was built by reusing stones from the temple.

architecture

The small Romanesque chapel is made of stone and is covered with limestone slabs. The semicircular apse in the east has two small windows that are very close to the ground. The short nave has no windows and the portal is on the north facade.

The west facade of the chapel consists of parts of the east wall of the Roman temple, into which a twin window was broken.
