The Roman Catholic parish church of St-Pierre is located in Écurat in the Charente-Maritime department in France . It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1910 .

history

The parish church of Saint-Pierre is, with the exception of the massive buttresses added in the 15th century to stabilize the outer walls of the single-nave structure , to the 12th century and was built in the Romanesque style. In contrast to the adjacent semicircular apse, the square choir tower , which rises above the choir bay and functions as a bell tower, has double sound openings in all four directions. The choir area, extended to the east by a windowless yoke, with an apse divided into three segments - only separated by pillars - is largely unadorned.

The west facade of the church, divided into three levels, shows a tympanum-free archivolt portal with two lower side blind portals, so that the ground floor as a whole is reminiscent of an ancient triumphal arch; the arches of all three portals are decorated with abstract geometric ornaments. The blind arch on the right is intersected by a corner buttress from the 15th century; A buttress was also added on the left - but in the building line . Above a figural console frieze, which u. a. shows an owl, there is a zone with two narrow windows; Another window can be found in the decor-free gable field. The original width of the facade can be read off the gable ends. The interior of the church is single-aisled and has carefully crafted masonry, and is characterized by high side arches and covered by a pointed barrel vault with belt arch beams. The capitals of the lateral half-column templates - as well as the surrounding cornice - have a beautiful vegetal decor; the blind arches only rest on transom plates . The altogether smaller apse is framed by a high choir arch ; there are two more altars on either side of the arch.
