Köttinger St. Anna Chapel

The St. Anna Chapel in Köttingen , a district of Erftstadt in the Rhein-Erft district , is located in the old town center on Peter-May-Straße. The building is a listed building .

history

The St. Anna Chapel is the successor to a small half-timbered chapel that belonged to a feudal courtyard of the Dietkirchen monastery in Bonn. The farm was owned by the St. Pantaleon Monastery in Cologne and was sold as a result of secularization .

In 1840–1841, the St. Anna Chapel was built as a four-bay brick chapel with a three-sided choir in place of the previous chapel .

When the chapel was no longer needed for the service after the reconstruction of the Church of St. Joseph , it served temporarily as a youth home, then as a storage facility for used textiles and waste paper. Carelessness caused a fire in 1978 in which the roof structure with ridge turrets and the interior fittings burned out completely. Donations and initiatives by the parish made the reconstruction possible. The roof rider received his old bell back, which had been given to Liblar as a cemetery bell. The burnt interior was replaced by a new one. In October 1982 the chapel was consecrated again for worship.

Building description

The long sides of the four-bay chapel are divided by pilaster strips , between which there are arched windows in three of the bays. A Madonna figure stands in a round arched niche above the entrance on the west side . A wooden cross with a body is attached to the chapel on the east side under an oculus window . A roof turret with a curved hood sits on the slate- covered gable roof.

use

The spacious chapel is equipped for services, which take place regularly once a week.
