Anna Chapel Gymnich

The Anna Chapel in Gymnich , a district of Erftstadt , is a small brick chapel, which stands outside the village on the carbon road and the mother of Mary , the holy Anna , is dedicated. The current building was built in 1880 and is a listed building . However, it goes back to a building that probably stood on this site as early as the 16th century. In the vernacular of Gymnich, the chapel is often referred to as the "Hellije Hüsje" ( Holy House ). The children were told that the young children come from this chapel.

history

The oldest dates of the Anna Chapel go back to 1516, when the building was first built according to the pastor's memorial book by Pastor Mertens (before 1880). His information came from a beam in the gable of the building, on which restoration work in 1650, 1708 and 1751 was noted. In the interior of today's chapel, the year 1588 is carved over the entrance door, which, according to Merten's successor in office, Pastor von der Burg, is said to have been the year the foundation stone was laid.

In 1880 the chapel was completely demolished and replaced by a new building, which still stands on the site today and bears the year 1880 in the gable . The building was blessed on April 24, 1881 by Pastor von der Burg in a church ceremony.

On February 26, 1943, the chapel was destroyed by an air mine in an air raid on Gymnich , with the roof, the vault, the door and the windows being completely destroyed. By the summer of 1944 the chapel was rebuilt by the local community. The windows, which were destroyed again in 1945, were also replaced shortly after the destruction. A more extensive renovation took place in 1957 and in the following years by the care of the Catholic women's community St. Kunibert. This celebrates a holy mass every year on Anna's day on July 26th and around this day the Anna octave with daily devotions and regular masses in honor of the holy mother Anna.

In 2017, the repair and restoration of the double-winged entrance door, the semicircular skylight and the arched niche in the gable, in which there is a statue of the Mother of God.
The work financed by donations was organized by the local Gymnicher Heimatverein.
