St. Ansgar Church (Elmshorn)
The St. Ansgar Church in Elmshorn belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Peace Church Community in the Rantzau-Münsterdorf parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany . It was inaugurated in December 1962. It was named after the Archbishop of Hamburg-Bremen Ansgar and built according to plans by Otto Andersen .
history
In the winter of 1959/60, negotiations began with the architect Otto Andersen, who was known for his church buildings. On October 5, 1960, the first construction work was carried out, namely the concrete piles, which represent the basic statics. The concrete and steel work ended in September 1961. The tower (still without cladding) was placed on the roof of the church on December 9, 1961 (which required two attempts). The topping-out ceremony took place on December 13, 1961.
The church was consecrated on the 3rd Advent in 1962. In the summer of 1967 the tower got its copper cladding.
Building
The church consists of steel girders and is walled outside with red bricks. The inside is painted white. It can accommodate up to 400 visitors.
It contains the church service room, a sexton's lounge, a sacristy and a cellar. It has two entrances, from Ansgarstrasse and Schönaich-Carolath-Strasse. Both entrances lead to the stone altar. A pastorate and a parish hall also belong to the site .
