St. Georgen Church (Schwarzenberg)
The Evangelical Lutheran St. Georgen Church is a baroque hall church which, together with the castle, shapes the townscape of Schwarzenberg .
history
After the old town church had become too small and unsightly for the residents of the town, a new church was to be built. The Saxon Elector Johann Georg III donated for this . and the Schwarzenberg Oberzehnder and distributor Balthasar Lehmann each took half of the building site on the site of the burnt down office building on the site of the former outer bailey of the castle. A pewter plaque, which was laid when the foundation stone was laid on May 6, 1690, reports on those involved in the construction. The plans were designed by the Lößnitz architect Johann Georg Roth. Master mason Johann Georg Pauli and master carpenter Samuel Georg, both from Schwarzenberg, were responsible for the construction. After nine years of construction, the church was consecrated in the form of a transverse church on October 22, 1699. The baroque altar grille from 1721 was made by Zacharias Georgi from Schwarzenberg.
Only on July 17, 1722, a button with a flag and cross was placed on the tower. Six years later, the richly carved, self-supporting wooden ceiling was added, which gained national fame due to its construction: the clear width of the room was 34 × 18 meters.
organ
The organ comes from the organ building workshop Hermann Eule (Bautzen) and was built in 1993. The organ case was also built in 1993, based on the case designed by Gottfried Silbermann in Forchheim. The instrument has 39 registers on slider drawers . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
