Saint George of Samatya ( Surp Kevork ) ( Armenian Սամաթիոյ Սուրբ Գէորգ Եկեղեցի , Turkish Sulu Manastiri , "water monastery") is an Armenian Apostolic Church in Istanbul consecrated to Saint George .

The structure, built between 1866 and 1887, was built on the remains of a Byzantine monastery church that was built in the 11th century under Romanos III. Argyros had been built. The building complex is dedicated to the Theotokos Peribleptos ( Greek Μονὴ τῆς Θεοτόκου τῆς Περιβλὲπτου , pr. Mone tes Theotókou tes Peribléptou ) and one of the most important Greek Orthodox monasteries in Constantinople . After the Ottoman conquest of the city in 1453, the monastery was handed over to the Armenian community of Constantinople and was temporarily the seat of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople .

The client was Bedros Nemtze . The church is now located in Istanbul's Fatih district in the neighborhood of Kocamustafapaşa (historically Samatya ) on Marmara Caddesi 79 . It is located within the city ​​walls near the Sea of ​​Marmara .
