St. Johannes Church (Ritterhude)
The St. Johannes Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church building in Ritterhude , a small town in the Osterholz district in Lower Saxony .
history
The first church stood in its current location and was a small wooden chapel of unknown construction date. When a new pastor took office in 1691, he found a dilapidated church. He raised money on preaching trips to finance a new church. The foundation stone was laid in 1701/02 and the building dragged on very long. It was in disrepair again as early as 1790. A half-timbered building with a free-standing belfry was built. In 1890 the church got an exterior plaster. The church tower followed in 1892 and was raised by two meters in 1936.
