The St. Marien Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Wechold .

description

The tower is a Romanesque defense tower from the 12th century . The upper part of the 33 meter high tower was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and renewed in 1660. There is a bronze bell from 1760 and two steel bells from 1924. A tower clock is first mentioned in 1654, the current one is from 1895. The nave is neo-Gothic and was built from 1870 to 1871.

history

The first documentary mention dates back to 1179 and shows the church as the property of the former Stephani monastery in Bremen. Carl Johann Philipp Spitta was pastor in Wechold from 1836 to 1847 .
