In June 1953 the church leadership of the Evangelical Lutheran (Old Lutheran) church acquired the listed villa from 1906. In 1958 an emergency chapel was built, which was consecrated on October 25, 1959 by the church councilor Heinrich Schröter, who is based at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community Berlin-Mitte held. The St. Mariengemeinde is a subsidiary of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation Zum Heiligen Kreuz in Berlin-Wilmersdorf . The Wilmersdorfer Heilig-Kreuz-Gemeinde grew strongly in numbers, so that a community meeting on April 16, 1961 decided to make the branch community in Zehlendorf independent. The first pastor of the St. Marien parish was the later Bishop Jobst Schöne , who was introduced to the newly established parish on March 4, 1962. The foundation stone was laid on May 7, 1972, and the church building was completed in 1973.

Building history

A porch is built in front of the church. A special feature is the baptistery on the opposite side of the entrance. The font is made of shell limestone . A wood carving can be seen above the font. The church is built to the east according to Christian tradition . The red Dutch hand-painted bricks are all different and symbolize that every Christian contributes to the building of the church with his or her gifts. The altar area is raised by two steps. The altar made of light sandstone stands out from the olive-colored quartzite of the floor. The altar is the center of the church. Five crosses are carved into the altar plate to commemorate the five wounds of Christ. The block shape of the altar should be reminiscent of a sarcophagus . A bronze crucifix cast in bronze is attached to two oak beams above the altar , which is modeled on the Werden crucifix from 1060. On the left there is a simple sandstone pulpit and on the right an equally simple ambo .
