history

The place and a first church were first mentioned in documents from Bremen in 1204 as a vlogeling . The Knights of Flögeln were related to the neighboring von Bederkesa family. In 1381/1411 Flögeln came into the possession of the city of Bremen in the Bederkesa office, became Swedish in 1654 and came to the Electorate of Hanover in 1715 , which became Prussian in 1866.

In 1438, Martin von der Lieth was named as the lord of the church in a deed of purchase. In 1504, the city council of Bremen appointed the canon of St. Ansgarii Dietrich Stenow as pastor of Flögeln. The Reformation was introduced in 1534 by the city of Bremen for the Bederkesa office.

A first sexton in Flögeln was appointed in 1587. School lessons took place in the Küsterei from 1610, later in new school buildings.

Against the resistance of the community, a Lutheran pastor (Bernhard Havemann, 1625–1691, son of Michael Havemann ) was appointed by the Electorate of Hanover in 1659 .

The Paulskirche was named after the apostle Paulus von Tarsus († approx. 65).

Building

The single-nave , Gothic and Neo-Gothic brick church stands on the Kirchweg on a small hill, with an indented, rectangular choir made of bricks on a field stone base dates partly from the Middle Ages (13th century, field stone base, choir around 1500). The nave was renewed in 1851/52. The square, four-story west tower from 1905 replaced a previous tower; he has a tent roof.

The altarpiece with a Low German font comes from the Reformed period . The baroque picture of the Last Supper and the pulpit came after 1659. The Leisewitz family from Bremen donated the Priechen (separate seats for the higher classes), the romantic organ and the picture of Jesus above the choir. The round baptismal font from 1609, a chandelier (19th century), the organ on the gallery and a modern sculpture complete the interior.

The single-storey rectory, Flögelinger Str. 35, dates from 1820 and forms an ensemble with the parish barn.
