The St. Severin Church is the Protestant church in the village of Ilberstedt in Saxony-Anhalt .

prehistory

The first church in Ilberstedt is mentioned as early as 1160/70. A new church building was erected on its ground plan in 1563. This burnt down during the Thirty Years' War in 1636, but the destroyed nave could be rebuilt in the following years. In 1878 the very dilapidated and also too small church was demolished and a new building began, which was completed in 1880.

architecture

The church, built in neo-Gothic style , is located on the northern bank of the Wipper . The brick church was built on a base made of rubble stones. On the west side is the church tower integrated into the nave. The tower is crowned by a pointed hood covered with slate . The bell storey is polygonal . The same applies to the eastern end of the ship.

Interior design

Inside there is still the original furnishings from the time the church was built. In addition to the pulpit and stalls, there is a horseshoe gallery on the parapet of which there are stencil paintings . The choir is also decorated with such paintings. Depictions of the evangelists are applied to the front of the nave . The organ dates from 1885 and was created by Wilhelm Rühlmann senior from Zörbig .

Noteworthy are two paintings by the Dresden painter Eduard Behrend placed under the organ gallery , which represent the predecessor of today's church.

The interior of the church was restored in 1993.
