St. Altfrid is the Catholic church in the Hildesheim district of Ochtersum .

When, from the beginning of the 1960s, large new building areas were built in the southwest of Hildesheim, the village church of the former monastery village of Ochtersum, the St. Godehards Church from 1858, was no longer sufficient. In 1987 it was profaned and since then has served the diocese as a depot for the preservation of monuments.

As early as 1976/77, the St. Altfried Church and the adjacent parish center were built in the new center of the district, at Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse 9. On March 19, 1977, was made consecration of the church by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . The church patron was the Hildesheim bishop and cathedral builder Altfrid , as there was already a St. Godehard church in Hildesheim, to which Ochtersum was incorporated in 1971, with the St. Godehard basilica . On September 1, 1978 the parish of St. Godehard was renamed St. Altfried. The Förderverein St. Altfried eV has supported the parish since 2012 . Since November 1st 2014 the church belongs to the parish of St. Mauritius . In the course of this congregation merger, the name of the church was changed from “St. Altfried "in" St. Altfrid "corrected.

The towerless church, located around 92 meters above sea level , was built according to plans by Josef Fehlig , designed as a hexagonal central building with a tent roof. Inside the church, which offers 320 seats, the high and light altar wall with a white disc of the sun or the host and the large north window by Paul Corazolla with the motif of the New Jerusalem are impressive . The bronze figure of the church patron comes from Hanns Joachim Klug .

The organ in St. Altfrid was built in 1987 by the organ building company Seifert (Kevelaer) for the Capuchin Church in Geldern. After the church was profaned, the instrument stood in another church in Geldern until 2000 and was acquired for St. Altfried in 2008 after this church was profaned and built by the Renard (Kevelaer) organ building company.
