St. Antonius (Lohne)
St. Antonius Abt is the Roman Catholic Church in the Lohne district of the Wietmarschen unified community in the Grafschaft Bentheim district in Lower Saxony .
history
A church in Mittellohne was consecrated on August 24, 1852. This was demolished in 1970 because it was too small. The new church was solemnly consecrated, again at the same location, on September 30, 1972 by Bishop Helmut Hermann Wittler. The hl. Anthony is the patron of the parish. He is the patron saint of farmers and domestic animals.
Buildings and equipment
The structure of the large church is based on a hexagon . As a hall church , it offers all believers a good view of the altar. The portal of the church has three bronze doors depicting the story of God with man on relief .
Bell tower and church square
The bell tower is next to the church. It was built in 1976. Five bells ring in the tower: D ', E', G 'A' and H '. Since 1982 there has been a statue of Anthony at the foot of the tower, which previously stood in the gable of the old church.
In 2010 the church square was redesigned. The fountain represents three important personalities for Lohne:
- Auxiliary Bishop Niels Stensen was in Schepsdorf on July 30, 1681 and also traded young Christians from Lohne.
- Heinrich Bürschen from Lohne celebrated his homeland prime in 1911. He became a Divine Word missionary in the Philippines.
- Chaplain Hermann Lange from Leer represented the sick pastor in Lohne in April 1939. Together with chaplain Johannes Prassek and chaplain Eduard Müller and the Protestant pastor Friedrich Stellbrink, he was executed on November 10, 1943.
