St. Antonius Abbot (Horstmar)
The Catholic Chapel of St. Antonius Abt is a listed church building in Horstmar , a small town in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
The building on the Schöppinger Berg was the chapel of the Antonius Brotherhood founded in 1651. The small quarry stone hall with a three-sided choir closure and an open pillar vestibule is marked 1770. The building was renewed several times, the last major renovation was carried out in 1962. In 1994 the chapel was entered in the list of architectural monuments in Horstmar . In January 2018, a semi-trailer truck drove into the chapel, which was badly damaged. In June 2018, the reconstruction was essentially complete. It reopened in January 2019.
Furnishing
- The column retable with tabernacle and a figure of St. Antonius Abt is from around 1770. It was redrafted in 1977 based on the original findings .
- The relief of the Georgsmesse from the 16th century has been heavily revised.
- The Sculpture Fragments of St. Antonius made of Baumberger sandstone from around 1440 are a work by the master of the Bentlager crucifixion relief.
- The two crucifixes were made in the 18th century.
- Outside the choir is an expressive Pietà from the end of the 15th century made of Baumberger sandstone .
