St. Antonius Hermit (Koblenz)
St. Antonius Eremit is a Catholic chapel in Koblenz . The chapel in Bisholder , part of the Koblenz district of Güls , is a branch of the parish church of St. Servatius and was probably built in 1764. It bears the patronage of Saint Anthony the Great .
history
A chapel in Bisholder was first mentioned in 1546 as a branch of St. Martinus in Lay . It remained here until 1797 and then became a branch of St. Servatius in Güls in 1806 . The roof was damaged in the Thirty Years War and then repaired. The current building was probably built or renovated in 1764.
construction
The Antonius Chapel is an east-facing building on a rectangular floor plan. There is a bell ridge on the roof . Above the entrance it is designed as a crooked hip, on the choir side it is hipped. All windows are ogival , the window on the east wall of the choir has a three-pass wooden tracery finish .
The interior of the nave has a flat roof, the choir is vaulted with a groin . A small gallery with a railing made of board balusters is attached above the entrance . There is a stone altar in the choir . Above the choir arch is a figure of St. Anthony with a pig at his feet, a book in his left hand and a T-shaped St. Anthony's cross with two beggar bells in his right.
Monument protection
The St. Antonius Eremit Chapel is a protected cultural monument according to the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and entered in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in Koblenz-Güls (next to) in Bisholder 19 .
