St. Aureus and Justinus

St. Aureus and Justina is the Roman Catholic parish church in Bommersheim , a district of Oberursel (Taunus) . It is dedicated to Saint Aureus and his deacon Justinus . The church at Lange Straße 106 is a listed cultural monument .

history

In 1319 knight Heinrich von Bommersheim built a castle chapel in Bommersheim Castle , which was consecrated to Aureus and Justinus. The castle comprised a substantial part of today's churchyard. There was the seat of a chaplain , who was subordinate to the pastor of St. Ursula (Oberursel) . The first chaplain known by name is Udalricus. From 1525 to 1604 the chapel (like the mother church) was Lutheran , then again Catholic . After the church was built 1736-1738 (the foundation stone was laid on November 14, 1736), it was raised in 1740 to the rank of its own parish . The church was consecrated on August 15, 1765. Until 1888, however, this parish was linked in personal union with the one in Oberursel. Church books have existed since 1687 .

church

The baroque church was built by the master builder Christian Fritz and his son Jacob from Tyrol. It is a three-axis hall building with an inclined, three-sided closed choir. The glazing of the high arched windows was renewed in 1893. In 1899 the clock tower was installed by the civil parish. The interior of the church is almost entirely from the time it was built. The baroque high altar was created by the Hadamar sculptor Martin Volk (1740) and the baroque side altars by Johann Wiess (before 1738). The organ from 1899 has 13 stops.

The church bells were confiscated in 1917. The three bells newly cast in 1920 were inaugurated in 1922. The Marienglocke from 1776 was given to the church in Stierstadt.
