history

The influx of Catholic expellees in the region after the end of World War II made it necessary to set up new Catholic parishes, especially in the Kiel area , including St. Bonifatius in Kronshagen. The municipality includes Kronshagen, Suchsdorf , Ottendorf , Stampe , Landwehr , Strohbrück , Altwittenbek , Neuwittenbek and Schinkel .

The parish church of that time was built with the support of the Bonifatiuswerk . The foundation stone was laid in the summer of 1959. The Osnabrück auxiliary bishop Johannes von Rudloff consecrated the church on December 6, 1960.

The church was redesigned several times: In 1965 an adjustment was made in accordance with the statements of the Second Vatican Council . A sculpture of the church patron was placed on the front of the church in December 1992. Altar, ambo, baptismal font and the base of the tabernacle , each made from Anröcher dolomite , were redesigned in 1997 by Paul Brandenburg .

The church received an organ with twelve registers in 1967 (Klaus Becker Orgelbau, today Michael Becker Orgelbau ). In 1978 the parish hall was inaugurated.

In the course of the parish mergers, the previously independent parish of St. Bonifatius became one of the branch churches of the parish of St. Nicholas in Kiel in 2005 .

Since the establishment of the parish of Francis of Assisi in 2014, it has been one of the ten churches in this parish, which consists of the Catholic parishes throughout Kiel and some of the surrounding parishes (the terms "Filialkirche" and "Pfarrkirche" can be found in the newly established parishes of Archdiocese of Hamburg no longer applied).
