Erika Maria Wiegand

Erika Maria Wiegand (* December 5, 1921 as Erika Maria Lindner in Fischhausen , Samland ; † April 27, 2009 in Kassel ) was a German artist and sculptor .

Youth and education

Erika Maria Lindner moved with her family to Allenstein in 1927 . After graduating from high school, she began studying at the Königsberg Art Academy in 1940 , first at the state masters ateliers for the fine arts , then she studied sculpture with Professor Hans Wissel and then art history . In 1943 she married Gerhard Wiegand in Allenstein. At the end of January 1945 she fled from the approaching Red Army , passed the Oder Bridge and had lived in Haldensleben in the Soviet occupation zone since the beginning of May .

Working as an artist

In the years 1946–1958 she accepted church commissions as a freelance sculptor and designed several sacred sculptures , sculptures and portraits . In 1952 she moved to live with her husband in Kassel, worked as an artist and sculptor and went on research trips to Italy, Poland, Turkey, England and Tunisia. From 1985 to 1993 she taught as a lecturer in figure modeling at the local community college. She preferred to work in terracotta - she would like the red color that is created when the clay is fired. She also burned multicolored sculptures by using different earths. Your work is characterized by an enormous range; from sacred art , three-dimensional fairy tale characters, portraits and busts to two-dimensional reliefs .

On the occasion of the documenta she opened her art exhibition in the Königs-Galerie Kassel on July 4th, 2007 and accepted the honorary letter from the state of Hesse including a pin.
