history

St. Bonifaz 1892, Mainz main station in the background

The parish was founded at the end of the 19th century with the development of the Mainz Neustadt. The original neo-Gothic basilica that on Easter Monday, 1894 by Bishop Paul Leopold Haffner ordained was, while the air strikes against Mainz was completely destroyed on February 27 1945th The current building was completed in 1954 and redesigned inside in 1988.

At Pentecost 1957 the partial construction of the new Oberlinger organ was consecrated, in 1971 the organ was completed by the same organ building workshop in Windesheim. The organ then had 39 registers, divided into 3 manuals and pedal. The planning concept was in the hands of Prof. Dr. Franz Bösken and Ernst Oberlinger. In 1989 the instrument, which was erected on two consoles in the gallery around the central window, was given a new setter system combined with a new console that was set up exactly between the two sub-works. On this occasion, three organ registers from Oberlinger, which were provided for in the planning but were still postponed, were installed so that the organ then had 42 registers.

The pastoral care of St. Boniface was entrusted to the Capuchin Order from 1969 to 1993 . Since then it has been noticed by Dominicans .
