St. Crucis (Espenfeld)
The Protestant village church of St. Crucis is in the Espenfeld district of the city of Arnstadt in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Arnstadt in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
history
The Romanesque fortified church , a choir tower church from the middle of the 13th century, was surrounded by double defensive walls, of which the inner one has been preserved.
The massive church tower , the apse and the altar are said to have already existed with the cemetery in 1255 .
The nave and baptismal font date from the first half of the 12th century.
After 116 years this complex is again the seat of a parish office.
