St. Cyriakus in Löbejün

St. Cyriakus or Hospital Chapel is a listed chapel in the village of Löbejün in the municipality of Wettin-Löbejün in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is recorded as a monument under registration number 094 55224 .

The patron saint of the sacred building on Anhalter Straße in Löbejün is Cyriakus . The chapel was built around 1200 and has no apse . Instead of a tower, the chapel has a roof turret , which was part of a renovation in 1801. When it was built, the chapel was outside the city walls. It is therefore assumed that the neighboring hospital was not built in 1460, but that a hospital already existed at the time the chapel was built, which was expanded or rebuilt in 1460. The building was renovated in 1910. The Romanesque building is now considered to be the oldest in the city.
