St. Cyriakus (Azmannsdorf)
The Protestant village church St. Cyriakus is in the Azmannsdorf district of the city of Erfurt in Thuringia . The parish belongs to the parish Vieselbach in the parish of Weimar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
History and equipment
The village church was built from 1769 to 1771 in the peasant baroque style with an unfinished church tower . It replaced a presumably medieval predecessor building that had stood at a different location. Pictures and parts of the furniture were taken from the old church and some of them are still preserved today, including the benches, the patron s box and the altar Bible. In 1788 the interior was painted. In 1802 the double gallery with a loge created with marble imitation was installed. The gallery parapet was completed from old painted boards.
In 1827 the incompletely built tower was given a perfect dome . The organ front has strong plastic carvings. The barrel ceiling was painted in one color. The baptismal angel dates from the 18th century. On the north side of the tower, a wooden staircase leads to the tower and the bell chamber .
The bronze bells were melted down during World War I ; In 1920 three cast iron bells came as a replacement.
In 1990 the gradual renovation of the building began. From 2004 to 2015 the roof and ceiling, the tower and some windows were extensively restored with the help of the German Foundation for Monument Protection . In 2015, a ceiling painting , hidden under the plaster, was uncovered, which depicts the eye of God .
In 2018, the church became the venue for the summer concerts project in Erfurt village churches of the Erfurt Chamber Music Association .
