St. Dionysius (Frelenberg)
The St. Dionysius Church is a Roman Catholic branch church in the Frelenberg district in Übach-Palenberg , North Rhine-Westphalia .
The church is dedicated to St. Dionysius of Paris and St. Aegidius and belongs to the large parish St. Petrus / Übach-Palenberg.
History and description
Since the old Frelenberg parish church of St. Dionysius had become too small in the course of the 1950s due to the rapidly growing population, it was decided in 1955 to build a new church in another location so that the old church building could be preserved. The new church was finally built between May 1958 and August 1960. The consecration took place on June 25, 1960 by the Aachen Bishop Johannes Pohlschneider . Due to water damage, the church building had to be renovated in 1970. It is a large and modern sacred building with a free-standing bell tower .
Between 1960 and 2010 the church was a parish church . However, since the Frelenberg parish , which already existed around 1300, was dissolved on January 1, 2010 together with five other parishes and merged into the new large parish St. Petrus / Übach-Palenberg , the church is a subsidiary church of this parish. The parish church was St. Dionysius in Übach.
