St. Elisabeth Hospital Niederwenigern

The St. Elisabeth Hospital Niederwenigern is a primary care hospital in Hattingen-Niederwenigern . Special emphasis is placed on psychiatry and psychotherapy . The house is run by the Ruhr Peninsula Catholic Clinics , which have been part of the Contilia Group since 2014 .

history

The hospital was founded by Pastor Struck in 1868 together with three Franciscan nuns from the St. Marienhaus Waldbreitbach . It was initially housed in the house of the widow Kamperhoff , a widow of the then local pastor of Niederwenigern, who had offered the house for sale.

When today's old building was built in 1938, the Order of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vinzenz von Paul with mother house in Paderborn took over the care in the St. Elisabeth hospital. They owned the clinic from 1953.

In 1968 a new building with 183 beds was built. At the beginning of the 1980s, the house specialized in internal medicine and set up a psychiatry department for the entire supply area. In particular the psychiatric department, under the direction of private lecturer Dr. med. Thomas Zeit, was assigned regional importance for the northern Ennepe-Ruhr district since 1986 . At the same time, the house also serves as a nursing home for 40 sisters, some of whom are still involved in the care and support of the patients.

From 1993 the hospital belonged to St. Vincenz-Krankenhaus GmbH based in Paderborn . Since 1998 the St. Elisabeth Hospital has been part of the Catholic Clinics Ruhr Peninsula Association. Between 1995 and 1997 the hospital buildings were renovated . The house has been part of the Contilia group since 2014.
