John Little

John Little (born April 25, 1837 in Greene County , Ohio , †  October 18, 1900 in Xenia , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Little attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1862 the Antioch College in Yellow Springs . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1865, he began to work in this profession in Xenia. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1864 and 1866 he was mayor of Xenia; between 1866 and 1870 he served as the prosecutor in Greene County. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1869 to 1873 . He then held the post of Attorney General of his state until 1877 as the successor to Francis Bates Pond .

In the congressional elections of 1884 Little was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded J. Warren Keifer on March 4, 1885 . Since he narrowly missed re-election in 1886, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1887 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Little practiced as a lawyer again. In 1889 he was named chairman of the United States and Venezuela Claims Commission by President Benjamin Harrison . He was also a member of the state arbitration board and from 1880 to 1900 curator of Antioch College . He died on October 18, 1900 in Xenia, where he was also buried.
