Yellow Springs is a small university town south of Springfield in Greene County in the US state of Ohio . At the census in 2000 it had around 3800 inhabitants, in 2010 it had around 3500 inhabitants.
The city takes its name from the spring east of the city in the Glen Helen Nature Preserve , which is colored yellow to orange due to its high mineral content. This spring was a sacred place for the Indians who lived there.
Yellow Springs is the birthplace of jazz drummer Cindy Blackman and has been the home of comedian Dave Chappelle for many years .
education
The place is the seat of Antioch University Midwest , which emerged from Antioch College . The college was founded in Yellow Springs in 1852 by the Christian Connection and began its work in 1853. Horace Mann was the college's first president. In 2008 the college closed, but reopened in 2011, the president since then has been Mark Roosevelt .
