St. Fabian and Sebastian

The Catholic parish church St. Fabian and Sebastian is a listed church building in Giershagen , a district of Marsberg , in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The parish belongs to the pastoral network Marsberg-Süd in the Dean's Office Hochsauerland-Ost ( Archdiocese of Paderborn ).

History and architecture

The previous church was demolished in 1901. The building was constructed with three naves from 1901 to 1902 . The church is the Holy . Consecrated to Fabian and Sebastian. It is equipped with a north and a south sacristy . An old keystone was walled up on the arch above the organ gallery. It shows the Bredela monastery coat of arms and on the right the abbot coat of arms of the Cistercians, who exercised jurisdiction in the place for a long time.

Furnishing

  • The octagonal baptismal font in the shape of a cup from 1580 is badly damaged. It was made of yellowish marble , the lid is made of softwood . The basin is decorated with a leaf frieze
  • Four seated figures made of softwood with a height of about 42 cm represent the evangelists . The figures are the work of Heinrich Papen .
  • The baroque monstrance from the 18th century is 65 cm high. It was made from partially gold-plated silver. The figure eight of the foot is decorated with medallions of the four evangelists. The lunula case is octagonal, with a frame made of ear and grape threads.
  • Different figures, like a double Madonna, the risen Christ and some saints from different eras.
