The Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Franz Xaver is located in Schwaighausen , a district of Holzgünz in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . It is a listed building.

History and description of the building

The plastered chapel is in the middle of Schwaighausen and was built in 1748. A renovation took place in 1955. The nave has two window axes and is provided with a barrel vault over pilasters. The choir is slightly drawn in and has a 5/8 ending. There is a gallery on the west side inside the chapel. The iron supports of the gallery are modern. On the west facade there is a roof turret with an onion hood . This is located on a four-sided base level. The entrance on the west side contains Rocailles carving . On the south side of the chapel there is a war memorial for the fallen from 1914–1918.

Furnishing

The altar is a marbled wooden structure on a coat of arms cartouche of the Kreuzherrnkloster. The crest cartouche is marked with IM Schmid Kaufbeuren 1752 . The altarpiece shows St. Franz Xaver in the storm. The altar panel is surrounded by diagonally placed free columns and volute pilasters. To the right and left of the altar are the figures of St. Francis and St. Antony. The excerpt from the altar shows the coronation of Mary.

The ceiling painting in the choir represents St. Catherine and St. Matthew and is labeled AJ Walch Kauffbeuren . Next to the ceiling painting are two putti with coats of arms, these are marked with 1752 JMM . The ceiling of the nave is adorned with a painting depicting the conversion of a negro prince by St. Franz Xaver. In addition to the ceiling painting, the paintings of St. Aloisius von Gonzaga and the depiction of a saint of the Jesuit order . The paintings of the four evangelists were created around 1700 .

There are several wooden figures in the chapel. The figure of St. Sebastian, a little standing Mother of God comes from the 18th century. The half- length figures of two small luminous acolytes date from around 1520/1530 . Both the crucifix with Mary and John as well as the Christ on the scourge column date from the 18th century. The seating dates from the middle of the 18th century.
