The Catholic parish church of St. Gallus in Baiertal , a district of Wiesloch in the Rhein-Neckar district in Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1912/13. The parish of St.Gallus is a parish in the Catholic pastoral care unit Wiesloch- Dielheim .

history

Because of the ownership share of the Teutonic Order , there were still Catholics in Baiertal even after the Reformation in the Electoral Palatinate , although the church patronage was claimed by the Electoral Palatinate, so that the historic St. Gallus Chapel of the place came to the Reformed community. In 1697 the old church was rebuilt with the participation of the Reformed, Lutheran and Catholic communities. When the Palatinate church was divided in 1707, the old church came to the Reformed parish, but from 1710 it was used as a simultaneous church for all three denominations, with the Reformed parish of Wiesloch, the Lutherans of Schatthausen and the Catholics of Dielheim being looked after. In the late 18th century the church was too small for any of the three denominations and had structural damage. The three denominations then built today's Evangelical Church as a simultaneous church from 1802 to 1804 .

As early as the first half of the 19th century, the Catholic community tried to find its own pastorate for the communities in Baiertal and Schatthausen, but was initially unsuccessful. It was not until 1911 that the Catholic community left the simultaneous church association in exchange for a severance payment of RM 12,000, acquired two pieces of land for a church and built the Gallus Church there from the laying of the foundation stone on September 1, 1912 until late summer 1913. Until their completion, Catholic services were held in the Catholic kindergarten. The church was consecrated on July 26, 1913 by Archbishop Karl Fritz .

In 1968 the tower of the church was repaired. From 1976 to 1982 an extensive interior renovation followed, with a generous donation from a donor in 1977 also making it possible to purchase a new organ manufactured by Heissler in Markelsheim. Due to inadequate thermal insulation, the ceiling was damaged again after a few years, so that the interior of the church was renovated again after 1987.
