The Saint George Peak ( Russian Гора Святой Георгия Победоносца Gora Swjatoi Georgija Pobedonosza ) is a 1500 m high mountain on the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises 5 km northeast of Cape Vostok in the western part of the Havre Mountains .
The German-Baltic seafarer Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen sighted a mountain in the area in 1821 during the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819–1821) and named it after Saint George († 303). However, no mountain can be assigned to the geographical position given by von Bellingshausen. However, it is very likely that this is the mountain described here. This was mapped by the British geographer Derek Searle from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960 using aerial photographs taken by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee converted the Russian name into English in 1961.
