The St. Hedwig's Church in Gryfów Śląski (dt. Greiffenberg ) in LWÓWEK ŚLĄSKI COUNTY , Province of Lower Silesia carries the patronage of St. Hedwig von Andechs .

history

The Gothic three-aisled hall church was made of brick at the beginning of the 15th century. A bell tower is built into the south aisle. The choir on the east side is rectangular with diagonally trimmed corners and stepped buttresses. The central nave has a barrel vault, the side aisles have a net vault, and the choir has a ribbed vault. The vault of the central nave is decorated with sgraffito plaster.

The church was renovated or rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries and in 1925/1926, whereby the Gothic style features were lost. The windows were closed at the top with a semicircle instead of an ogival arch, the outer walls were smoothly plastered and the original brick structure was hidden.

The church was registered on November 25, 1949 under A / 827/65 in the register of architectural monuments of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

Entrance portal

The high altar from 1606 in the form of an altar shrine carries symbols of patience, wisdom, hope, justice and bravery. When closed, it is reminiscent of a monstrance .

The furnishings include two side altars, a richly decorated pulpit with a canopy and a stone baptismal font . In the church is the grave of the Schaffgotsch family , with the figures of the family members carved in sandstone.

The tower forms the main entrance to the church. On the two-story square base rises a two-story octagonal drum with railings, crowned by a slender onion dome.
