The St. Jürgen infirmary in Travemünde was a former infirmary at the gates of the fortified Lübeck outer harbor.

history

The history of the infirmary west of the Travemünder Landstrasse between the old town of Travemünd and the Skandinavienkai goes back to the year 1431, when it was donated as a house for lepers . According to other sources, it even dates back to before 1289. It gave its name to the infirmary bay of the Trave . The listed southern part of the single-storey building was preserved under a gable roof until the end of the 1960s. The monument protection was lifted before the demolition in the summer of 1969 and the property was assigned to the Travemünde industrial company Hatra as a company car park . Until shortly before the demolition, it was used as an old people's apartment for needy people from the Travemünder Winkel .

St. Jürgen (around 1520)

The late Gothic statue of St. Jürgen from around 1520 was originally located in a niche on the eastern side of the eaves , and is now in the St. Lorenz Church . The statue was originally colored, but the original version has not been preserved due to the weather. Beseler also noticed a crucifixion picture from 1711 and a pair of brass candelabra as (former) furnishings. The bell of the infirmary by the Lübeck caster Gerhard Kranemann (14th century) is now in the St. Anne's Museum in Lübeck.
