St. Jakob in Rabland

St. Jakob is a late Gothic church in Rabland , a fraction of Partschins in South Tyrol . It has a pointed arch portal and a polygonal choir closure. The tower was added in 1828.

history

The church was donated around 1513 by the brothers Hans and Gaudenz Guet Maurer, both tax collectors in Rabland. They not only financed the building of the church, but also donated their farms and land for further maintenance and to regularly distribute alms to those in need.

The church was consecrated in 1521. It was consecrated to St. Jacob the Elder and Margaret of Antioch .

Of the Gothic winged altar that once existed, which was built by Jörg Lederer around 1525, only the sculpture of St. Margaret remains. On the west and south facades there is a sundial, both from 1598. The building was de-gothicized in the 18th century, and again in 1891. The current altar dates from the 18th century, the altarpiece is probably by Josef Wengenmayr.

Since the renovation in 1978, the little church has been used as a chapel for the dead.

In 1980 the St. Jakob Church was placed under monument protection.
